33rd Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot  ·  May 2026

For the first time in the competition's history, the University of Nairobi has advanced to the elimination rounds of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria  and walked away with one of its most prestigious oral advocacy awards.

Competing against over 400 universities from more than 100 countries, UoN not only broke into the elimination stages but claimed the Eric Bergsten Award for Best Team Orals among all advancing teams. The recognition, named after the moot's founder, is a testament to the team's exceptional courtroom composure and advocacy under the highest level of competition.

UoN was the only Kenyan institution at this year's competition and just the second African team ever to reach the elimination rounds — a result that firmly places the university among the world's top-performing law schools on the international stage.

Representing the University of Nairobi were Ayaga Max Liambillah, Hubert Wandeto, Mbarak Khalid, William Philip, Amanda Faizer, and Patience Kathambi.

For the Faculty of Law, this is not just a first; it is a measure of where the institution stands among the best in the world.
