Mercy Cheptoo, Kibet Brian and Musikoyo Elly Keanes, who are our final-year students, are the winners of the Inaugural Strathmore Tax Law Hackathon. The competition required students to come up with innovative and equitable methods of taxing professional services and the digital economy. The team also emerged as the second runner up in the best presentation category. Kibet Brian was also awarded as the best oralist. Two teams from the faculty participated in the competition; the second team consisting of James Wandolo, Nelly Maina and Fiona Swapala got to the knockout rounds.
The Hackathon was organized by the Strathmore Tax Research Center and was held between 1st - 3rd March 2023. The competition drew participants from Kenyatta University, Strathmore University, Jomo Kenyatta University and Kenya School of Revenue Administration and required students to come up with innovative and equitable methods of taxing professional services and the digital economy.
In light of their win, the students in the winning team will intern with PwC Kenya.
