FOL Associate Dean Prof. Collins Odote joined other dignitaries at the Launch of Digital land Governance Programme today March 28th 2022.
Prof Odote congratulated the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) , Government of Kenya and European Union (EU)on the launch of the digital land governance programme.
In his remarks, Prof Odote noted, “we are grateful that the academia is going to be represented as they are critical actors through their training of most professionals who work in the land sector and their research that generates data required for policy making. Land remains the most critical property in the quest for economic recovery and building back better following the Covid 19 pandemic. Lastly, a focus on digital aspects should ensure that title and entitlement became two sides of the same coin’’.
The objective of the digital land governance programme in Kenya is to Secure and improve equitable access to land and natural resources for food security and socio-economic development of agro-pastoral communities in the Arid and Semi-arid Lands (ASALs) of Kenya
The EU land governance programme was put in place to support countries to address structural problems of food insecurity. The programmes includes financial support to 17 country level projects and a transversal support for these projects. Projects focus overall range of tenure-related issues and are implemented by various implementing partners, including governments, NGOs, bilateral organizations and in some cases FAO. The EU Land Governance Programme is funded through the EU’s Food Security Thematic Programme and in some cases includes co-funding by partners (https://africalandpolicy.org/eu-programme/)
