In a significant development that garnered significant attention within the legal and academic circles of Kenya, President William Ruto has appointed Prof. Collins Odote as the new Non-Executive Chairperson of the Council of Legal Education, replacing the former Attorney General, Prof. Githu Muigai, who resigned recently.  This appointment, announced through a gazette notice dated October 5, 2023

This appointment is a testament to his distinguished career and invaluable contributions, particularly during his time at the University of Nairobi, where he serves as an associate dean at the Faculty of Law.

Over the years, he has become a respected figure in the Kenyan legal community. The Council of Legal Education plays a vital role in Kenya's legal system, regulating and overseeing legal education and training, including admission to the bar; regulate legal education and training in Kenya offered by legal education providers; license legal education providers; supervise legal education providers; advise the Government on matters relating to legal education and training; and Continuous improvement of legal education programs in Kenya.
