Kibet Brian and Jerameel Kevins Owuor receive the award from Hon. Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Kibet Brian and Jerameel Kevins Owuor are the 2021 C B Madan Awards recipients in the students category. The Awards were presented on 07/12/2021 at Strathmore Law School and was graced by the Hon. Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Kibet, a third year student was feted for his commentary in the June edition of The Platform that was titled “The Defender of Community Lands: The Limping Warrior in the Community Land Act” analyzing the Community Land Act, 2016 and its shortcomings. This work was lauded for suggesting practical recommedations in the management of community lands.

Jerameel, was feted for his work in the August Edition of The Platform that was titled was titled ‘Offending the Law Resuscitating the Spirit of Bill Barr: Spotlight on the Office of the Attorney General’. The paper sought to interrogate the constitutional demands on the Office of the Attorney General in the post-2010 dispensation. It was recognized for “convincingly demonstrating that the holders of this important office have often sacrificed the rule of law and public interest for short term political interests.”

Prof. Karuti Kanyinga, renowned particularly for his extensive research and publications on land rights civil society and development and who is the Director at the University of Nairobi’s Institute for Development Studies, delivered the C. B. Madan Memorial Lecture and afterwards the Chief Justice Martha Koome was named the 2021 C.B. Madan Prize Laureate in recognition of her efforts in defending the rights of children and vulnerable persons in society.
