Associate Dean Prof. Collins Odote together with other member of the Advocates Complaints Commission was sworn into office on Friday 19th May 2023 at the Supreme Court, Nairobi.

The team was appointed by President William Ruto to serve for a period of three years effective April 27, 2023. Former National Assembly deputy speaker Moses Cheboi took the oath of office as the chairperson of the Commission. Peter Ereri Nyaga, Prof Collins Odote, Mueni Kalola and Patrick Maina Muriuki were on their part sworn in as commissioners.

The Advocates Complaints Commission (ACC) is a department within the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice responsible for receiving, investigating, promoting reconciliation and prosecuting complaints made against an advocate, firm of advocates, or any member or employee of the law firm.

The commission is responsible for receiving  and Investigating complaints against the professional conduct of any advocate or firm of advocates; undertaking reconciliation  of the parties, referral of complaints to the disciplinary committee and prosecution of the disciplinary action before the disciplinary committee.

It also investigates for purposes of prosecution any advocate who fails to attend Court on behalf of a client, fails to update a client on the status of their case, neglects a client’s case or compromises a client's case without their consent.

Overall, the goal of the commission is to facilitate the administration of justice and the rule of law within the legal sector for purposes of achieving a just and fair society under the political pillar of Vision 2030.
