Outgoing secretary-general for UNSA Parklands Campus, Melvine Thogo is the new Chairperson of the University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA). The third-year law student becomes the second female in the institution to clinch the seat after Ann Mvurya, who was elected in 2019.
In her acceptance speech, Melvin said “I am truly elated to stand before you as the new president of UNSA. It is a remarkable fete to join a remarkable list of past student leaders who were in these shoes, some of whom I have drawn inspiration to dare this dream. I thank the electoral commission for delivering the election in a free fair and just manner,”
Thogo also noted the win was because of sheer determination, consistency and raw hard work. She also thanked the delegates’ representatives who listened to their manifesto and voted for her team. Her team comprised of Vice-Chair, Mr. Vincent Wiso, Secretary General Vincent Nyakwachi, Treasurer, Valentine Mwende, Sports representative, Mary Aluodo, International representative, Monica Malith and Andrew Mbiti, A Persons with Disability representative
Melvin takes over from the outgoing chairperson, Eddie Mwendwa Mutua, for the 2022-2023 period.
